Sheldon Allan "Shel" Silverstein was an American writer known for his cartoons, songs, and children's books (“Where the Sidewalk Ends” and “Falling Up”). He grew up in the Logan Square, attended Roosevelt High School and, later, the University of Illinois, from which he was expelled. He then enrolled in Chicago Academy of Fine Arts where he was attending when he was drafted into the United States Army.

The back of the postcard features a quote by Silverstein: “You do something, you make it simple, and everybody else starts loading it up with deep meanings.”
